Or, a bit more complex....
Local, organic and nutritious. You won't waste your money here. We make awesome, flavorful, healthy bread, sweets and sandwiches! But, besides what we think, here are some reasons to buy delicious breads at our bakery - -in what-ever order you like. Food Security / identity preservation: our farmers (Wade & Jane) raise the wheat, our bakers mill it in the bakery and bake it into bread. No one else touches it. Anyone can see it being made into flour and bread inthe bakery or go see it being grown in the field.
Longevity: wheat had been raised on the land in Bridgeport, WA for over 100 years.
Low carbon footprint: no commercial fertilizers or chemicals, minimum tillage and transportation directly from farm to the bakery.
Biodiversity: for every acre farmed on this land an additional acre plus is still in its pristine, natural state. It is a place where sharp tail and sage grouse still nest, where a golden eagle can catch a jackrabbit, where coyotes still howl, where people come just to admire the proliferation of wildflowers in the spring.
Healthy: organic (no chemicals) wheat is milled into flour every morning at low temperatures and bakes, preserving the natural vitamins, amino acids (protein) and fiber.
The Lake Forest Park Great Harvest Bread Co.Bakery is located in the Lake Forest Park Towne Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE, in Lake Forest Park, Washington just northeast of Seattle proper. |
| | | | | We Grind Our Whole Wheat Fresh Every Day! |
August is the beginning of wheat harvest when the new crop of organic wheat begins its journey from the field to our bread to your table. We have partnered with a local farmer, Wade Troutman of Bridgeport, WA, to grow our organic wheat. What he cannot grow we buy from Montana organic grain farmers. Our effort is to provide you with the best breads with the most nutritious ingredients, support sustainable local farming and keep our carbon footprint as small as possible. That's a big job!
| We now use organic wheat to make our whole wheat flour. When we use our hard-earned dollars on organically grown products, everyone wins, including the environment. We support a business model in which equal value is placed on the planet, the people (our employees and our customers), and the profits.
